Viola Brands was founded by NBA veteran Al Harrington in 2011. The company is named for his grandmother, who inspired the launch after Harrington encouraged her to use cannabis to relieve her glaucoma symptoms. The company’s mission is to both build minority ownership in the industry, as well as reinvest in communities most impacted by the war on drugs.
The company has multiple programs and initiatives to support its mission. The Viola Cares program is focused on community engagement and support, and provides direct resources. In conjunction with the Cleveland School of Cannabis, the Harrington Institute offers classes to prepare folks for careers in the cannabis industry. Lastly, the Viola Accelerator program provides operational support and fundraising resources to its partners, with the goal of creating 100 Black millionaires in the industry.
